“One Sided”
Clarksville Tennessee native Twiggy Will kicked off 2023 with the release of her single, “One Sided,” this January. The track joined her 2021 single “Sneaky Link” for her first EP, released in February. This emerging artist has serious talent and a lovely vocal tone. She started singing as a child but rediscovered her passion in 2020 during the pandemic. Will’s love of music is obvious, and on full display in “One Sided.”
From the start, is clear that Twiggy Will is a skilled vocalist. She just swims over the vocal runs effortlessly, and the backing harmonies keep their distance to let her shine. The instrumental arrangement encompasses the lyrics in dreamy layers, as laid-back beats and bright techno accents surround Will’s vocals like a swirling fog or clouds. Throw in the reverbed Latin guitar, and the track’s overall tone evokes visions of dancing in slow motion on a rainy day. It’s romantic, cozy, and melancholy all at once. Lyrically, Will mourns a failing relationship. Although she can handle herself, she’s devastated by her partner’s selfishness, leaving the relationship “one sided.” Despite the disappointment, Will’s ability to depend on herself gives the track the inspiration it needs to pull through.
