about emily.

Simply put, I’m a huge music nerd. I love it. Theory, performance, history, composition, you name it, I can’t get enough. I decided to stop talking the ears off all my friends and family and channel that passion into reviews. So here’s a quick about me.

I am incredibly lucky to have my family. I was born in New Jersey in the 90’s, and immediately was exposed to every type of performing art under the sun. My grandmother was an operatic style local singer, often hired for weddings. My mom & her sisters were involved in amateur theater, and were known to spontaneously burst into song. Christmas Eves involved my aunt playing piano power chords while carols were belted (with harmonies) for hours.

I was blessed enough to take a few trips across the river to see more than my fair share of Broadway shows and some concerts at the Garden. My mom’s influence introduced me to folk and prog rock styles of the 60’s and my dad constantly played the classic rock anthems of the 80’s. Growing up meant that I got involved in my school’s art programs, playing anything I could get my hands on, and spending 8 years as an A/V Tech.

I moved to New Brunswick and was surrounded from all directions with the underground NJ scene, the New York influence from up north, and the Philly sound from the south. I was going to shows and hearing all new influences while also studying music theory and history.

These experiences have help me develop as a musician and as a music appreciator. In one afternoon, my soundtrack is likely to feature Lizzo or the Beatles or MF DOOM or the Dropkick Murphys or Glenn Miller or Fats Domino or Trixie Mattell. Music has shaped my existence, every minute of every day. If this resonates with you, please reach out. I’d love to connect and write a review or just get to know your sound. I’m looking forward to listening to you all.
