Guns and Roses
Anime Zayy’s newest album, Guns and Roses, was released earlier this year. For those familiar with his work, this album is more romantic and mature than his album Anime World, released last year. Guns and Roses contains seven tracks, and features Anime Zayy’s smooth vocals and modern, lo fi beats to create a melodic and sensual sound. The first track, “Go Away” makes the listener feel like a fly on the wall for an intimate conversation. He is begging his partner to say they love him before he “goes away,” but there is obvious tension in the relationship. It sets the tone for the rest of the album.
The other tracks continue to highlight Zayy’s dreamy vocals and modern beats. Some songs inclued ethereal female backing vocals, as well, including a feature from stargirl on “Watch My Heart!” The following tracks, “Red Roses” and “Isolation,” start with a romantic acoustic guitar that floats through the rest of the songs and support Zayy’s voice. The album discusses different aspects of a passionate relationship, and the instrumentation accompanies the lyrics beautifully. The album closes with “Universal Relaxation,” a track that lives up to its name. The song is a slow jam, and soothing backing harmonies mix with a guitar playing calming chords. Zayy sings about the deeper, more spiritual aspects of his relationship, concluding the album with those same guitar notes that opened the song. The album is filled with romantic ballads, but has enough going on musically to keep it from getting repetitive. If you’re looking for something to put on for a special night at home, be sure to look into Anime Zayy’s collection of work.
