“riotCONTROL”

North Carolina band Impulse Machine released their single “riotCONTROL” on August 12th. Impulse Machine features vocalist Connor Tomlinson, bassist Zac Strum, drummer Jordan Servie, lead guitarist Ethan Bowen, and is rounded out with Matt Stretz on rhythm guitar. “riotCONTROL” had been a crowd favorite when Impulse Machine would play live, and it has finally been released on streaming platforms.

The track starts off with unrelenting double bass drums and a heavy presence of the high hat and cymbals. This drumline is joined immediately by a growling guitar, and then Tomlinson’s vocals kick through the door. He’s speedrunning through his lyrics, bringing urgency and a high energy. At different parts throughout, an upbeat piano melody cuts through the rest of the noise. It’s unexpected and adds an intriguing layer.

Something particularly interesting about “riotCONTROL” is how enticing it is to dance to it. The driving tempo makes the listener want to get up and move. It almost feels like a mix between a heavy metal track and a pub anthem, because it’s something you would want to sing along to with your friends at the bar. The lyrics are catchy, but also a call to action. It’s definitely a track where the listener is a part of the action. The track winds down repeating the guitar melody before deteriorating into the distorted piano line. Overall, “riotCONTROL” is creative, catchy and clever. Be sure to keep an eye on Impulse Machine!
